how has carinthia benefited since joining the eu in 1995

Carinthia has benefited greatly from EU regional policy in the past. Since joining the European Union in 1995 until the end of the current MFF (2014-2020) Carinthia has received around 314,22 million euros through the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE) within the framework of Interreg. In addition, EU funds from the European Social Fund (ESF) from 1995-2020 amount to around EUR 106.30 million, which are used to support educational measures in the area of basic education and compulsory schooling in Carinthia.

In total Carinthia has received around 420,52 million euros in funds from the EU regional policy since Austria joined the EU. If you add the EU agricultural funds of around EUR 2,3 billion, Carinthia has benefited from around 2,8 billion euros since 1995 from these two pots. If this is compared with the EU contributions that Carinthia makes via the financial equalisation (for example, 2018: around EUR 36 million), it shows that Carinthia is still a net recipient: Around EUR 2 billion euros have been flowing back to Carinthia from the EU budget between 1995 to 2020.
