the rich culture of carinthia

Carinthia has many cultural treasures, monuments and events. These have been shaped by the thousand-year-old history of the region and its cultural circles: the Germanic, Slavic and Romance cultures. Numerous events for the old and the young take place throughout the year. In spring, the offer ranges from traditional celebrations and spring festivals to special exhibitions. The motto for the summer is: look, join in and celebrate - in traditional costume at the Villacher Kirchtag or festively at a classical concert. Autumn in Carinthia offers a range of harvest, alpine and culinary festivals. Winter, which is actually the quietest time of the year, begins with thunderous bells and the terrifying Perchten. The season becomes more contemplative with the sound of the famous Carinthian musical treasures at the Christmas Markets. Numerous choirs are part of Carinthia's cultural heritage, as are Carinthian folk songs.

Carinthia has a lot to offer culturally. Besides the numerous castles and palaces, such as Hochosterwitz Castle or Porcia Castle, there are also some very interesting museums to visit. These include the Carinthian State Museum (Kärntner Landesmuseum), the Carinthian Museum of Modern Art MMKK or the Roman Museum Teurnia. Numerous festivals are held throughout the year – especially in summer - including the Starnacht in the picturesque eastern bay of Klagenfurt, the Carinthian Summer Music Festival in Ossiach Abbey, or concerts in the open-air arena of Finkenstein Castle.
