The digital age involves profound social and economic change. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) are already changing how we live, work and communicate. The European Commission under President Ursula von der Leyen wants "A Europe ready for the digital age". The European way should be that the opportunities digitalisation entails are used within safe and ethical limits. The digital single market in Europe should be completed. The creation of a networked digital market within the EU has already been identified as a priority for European society, business and industry by the European Commission under President Jean-Claude Juncker since it is necessary to be able to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitisation. In addition, the European Commission under President Ursula von der Leyen intends to develop a European concept for a human and ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI), to present liability and security regulations for digital platforms, products and services, to ensure data protection in the exchange and use of data as well as cyber security, and to update digital skills of younger and older EU citizens.
